The WalthersMainline Phase II High-Hood GP9 is a must-have model for your first-generation diesel locomotive roster. Outwardly similar to the earlier GP7, this model shares the same boxy, no-frills body with its high, short hood. Minor production changes in the number and placement of louvers on locomotives built from 1955 to 1957 resulted in what modelers and railfans refer to as "phase two" GP9s. Like its real-world counterparts, many of which are still going strong today, the WalthersMainline Phase II High Hood GP9 is the perfect power for any assignment.

This model features an all-new body style with a standard high hood, based on as-built units produced from 1955 to 1957 (Phase II). It is a limited edition, with a one-time run of these road numbers. The scale-width hood has the correct contours, and the model is available with or without dynamic brakes as appropriate. It includes front and rear footboards, as well as see-through steps.

Constant and directional LED headlights provide realistic lighting, and the model includes molded drill starter points, allowing you to easily add grab irons with the GP9 Phase II Diesel Detail Kit (#910-258, sold separately). The powerful drive system is the same as WalthersProto(R) locomotives, featuring a five-pole skew-wound motor, a 14-to-1 gear ratio, and helical-cut gears for quiet operation and easy multiple-unit operation. All-wheel drive and electrical pickup, along with a machined brass flywheel and a heavy die-cast metal chassis, ensure smooth and reliable performance.

For easy DCC conversion, the model is equipped with a 21-pin plug.
