The powered A and B units come equipped with a powerful five-pole skew-wound motor and a 14:1 gear ratio, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. Helical-cut gears contribute to quiet, easy multiple unit operation, while the all-wheel drive and electrical pickup ensure reliable performance.

The heavy die-cast metal chassis provides a solid foundation, while the dual machined brass flywheels add to the realism. The A unit features a LED Mars Light (upper) and headlight (lower) for authentic lighting effects.

These locomotives are also equipped with ESU Sound for DCC and DC layouts, providing a fully DCC-compatible experience with 14, 28, and 128 speed steps, as well as dual mode DC and DCC operation.
