The SW7 prototype proved popular with both railroads and industrial lines, with nearly 500 units produced in just two years from 1949 to 1951. Several of these engines are still in service today, showcasing their reliability and versatility.

Featuring a Phase One body with arched front cab windows and a louvered radiator cover for units built from 1949 to 1950, or a Phase Two body with straight front cab windows and a wire grille radiator cover for units built from 1950 to 1951, the WalthersMainline SW7 captures the authentic details of the prototype. These models also come with dual tall conical exhaust stacks, a large front radiator grille, and a single straight hood-to-cab transition, adding to their realistic appearance.

With six louvered side doors and a letterboard gap, the SW7 is equipped with factory-installed grab irons on the hood and cab, and can be ordered with or without footboards as appropriate. Headlight options include the original large single, retrofit horizontal dual, retrofit dual vertical, and dual sealed beam configurations, allowing you to match the prototype practice.

A five-pole skew-wound motor with a 14:1 gear ratio provides smooth and quiet operation, while the all-wheel drive and electrical pickup ensure reliable performance. Equipped with ESU(R) Sound and DCC, these models are fully DCC compatible with 14, 28, and 128 speed steps, and can be operated in both DCC and DC layouts. The dual mode functionality allows you to adjust the four air horns and two bells via CV settings, while the full 8-notch 567A prime mover sounds, including the compressor, enhance the realism of your layout.
